Lynbrook Speakeasy – Houston, TX. Central to the plan of an established home in one of Houston’s iconic neighborhoods was a small collection of underutilized spaces that our clients had the vision of transforming into something special. They wanted their very own speakeasy, a respite in an otherwise busy household of managing children, schedules, careers, and travel. Contrasted with the rest of the home, which is mostly a bright off white and wood accents, the speakeasy takes on a mood all its own in the house, disappearing into the night with a darker vibe specifically for after-hours entertaining. The space is divided into two zones by waterfall stone countertops framing a wet bar, wine bar, wine fridge, and shelves for a variety of liqueurs. Opposite these countertops sits a more generous zone for seating and entertaining with plush furniture, book shelves, and the soft glow of pendant lighting. These two zones, while bound together in a dark color wash, and consistent flooring do display a noticeable contrast in masculinity vs femininity through careful selections and details. While the wet bar area features a somewhat industrial undertone of custom brass mesh cabinet faces, brass hardware and fixtures in front of an antiqued mirror backsplash, the gathering area is balanced with softer fabrics and greenery throughout. One can imagine many late nights spent with loved ones, from special occasions to weekly happy hours taking place in this oasis for many years to come.
